History of Barnum Neighborhood and How it Got its Name

Circus showman P.T. Barnum purchased the land in this neighborhood in 1878. It was later developed by his daughter Helen and her husband William Buchtel. Annexed by the city of Denver in 1896, Barnum has been a favored neighborhood of middle and working class people. You’ll find perfect starter homes in the neighborhood as well as great investment opportunities. With close proximity to the West Rail RTD Line and 6th Avenue, residents can easily commute to downtown Denver and Golden.

Recreation and Culture

Barnum Park is a large open space in the northeast corner of the neighborhood which includes a popular recreation center, off-leash dog park and picturesque lake, providing a beautiful vista of the city of Denver. A walking trail meanders through the park, and there is also a pedestrian bridge over 6th Avenue.
