History of Bear Valley

Bear Valley was once a neighborhood where wealthy Denver families built their summer homes including the “Unsinkable” Molly Brown’s Avoca Lodge, built in 1897. The home is now a museum and a remembrance of the small, quiet community that sits so close to the urban core of Denver.

Recreation and Culture

There are family-friendly parks in Bear Valley, including Westgate and Jefferson Green. In addition to the baseball and softball fields, and the horseshoe pits and volleyball courts, you can find bicycle and walking paths along Bear Creek Greenbelt that afford beautiful views of the Front Range. Bear Creek Lake Park features 2,600 acres of open space suitable for camping, hiking and horseback riding, and a lake for swimming.

The neighborhood hosts an annual 5K and 10K Yeti Chase, a fishing tournament and a “Grin and Bear It” family competition where teams of two compete in a lake crossing, a mountain bike course, and a run.

There is also a great variety of restaurants and neighborhood hangouts to explore. Bear Valley neighborhood is a wonderful place to raise a family. Make sure to check out The Greenfields Pool & Sports Bar where you can catch some live music on the weekends.
