Denver’s Clayton Neighborhood sits near Colorado Boulevard and I-70 allowing for great access into the city or out to the airport.

History and Recreation in the Clayton Neighborhood

The Clayton neighborhood is often confused with Park Hill, Cole or the City Park neighborhoods, but Clayton is a distinct neighborhood that was developed in the late 1800s. The neighborhood is named for George W. Clayton, a prominent businessman, and philanthropist who established a trust to help underprivileged children. The Clayton Early Learning Center Trust, located on the northwest corner of Martin Luther King Blvd. and Colorado Boulevard, is part of Clayton’s legacy and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Two beautiful parks are in the Clayton neighborhood including the City of Nairobi Park, and Schafer Park. Both parks are very kid-friendly, with Nairobi Park having an amazing assortment of playground activities built around an African animal theme. Clayton also has a very large religious presence with many churches spread throughout the neighborhood.

Architecture and Homes

As an urban neighborhood established well over a century ago, Clayton homes follow the architectural trends that were popular during the development of Denver. You’ll find Queen Annes, Victorians, brick bungalows, shotgun homes, and rowhouses throughout the area. Many older homes have been renovated and updated as more people have moved back to the neighborhoods close to downtown Denver. Clayton has become a popular choice among people looking for easy access to the RiNo neighborhood and I-70.

  • Tres Girasoles | What started out as a single food truck is now a stand-alone restaurant and an expanded line of three food trucks. Outstanding streets tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas. Yum!
