Denver’s Speer neighborhood is located in the heart of the city and is full of quiet, tree-lined streets, mature landscaping and charming bungalows. Its boundaries are 7th Avenue, Broadway, Alameda and Downing. The neighborhood is named after Robert Speer, a former mayor who led the city through successful beautification projects. Speer served two four-year terms as Denver’s mayor from 1904 to 1912.

The homes in Speer Neighborhood vary widely from gracious, older mansions to row homes, single-family bungalows to tall apartment buildings. There is a slightly younger population living here, drawn by the excitement of South Broadway and the neighborhood’s proximity to downtown Denver. It also attracts young families and professionals alike, with its wide assortment of homes and easy access to the Cherry Creek Bike Path. Like a majority of the other neighborhoods in Denver, Speer is undergoing a a rapid revitalization. Older homes are constantly being renovated, there is new construction and adorable condos that can be found in older homes as well as brand new buildings.

The Speer Neighborhood conveniently lies between Cherry Creek and downtown Denver which allows for great access to both of these economic hubs. It is also one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Denver with a very pedestrian- and bike-friendly vibe. The Cherry Creek Bike Path which runs parallel to Speer Boulevard allows for an easy commute to downtown, and the neighborhood has the benefit of nearby grocery stores, restaurants, shops, coffee shops, music venues, and nine designated historic districts.

Recreation and Culture

Speer neighborhood is close to the popular Alamo Placita and Hungarian Freedom Parks. For gardening enthusiasts, West Washington Park Community Garden (WWPCG) is a community garden dedicated to sustainable organic gardening, education, and community. Over 100 gardeners lovingly tend to 75 plots on site. Novice gardeners and master gardeners/composters come together annually to share the love of gardening.
